We talk with tartan historian, Peter MacDonald, about his career, discoveries, and the new 'Genesis of Tartan' Collection he helped the House of Edgar Tartan Mill research and produce.
Peter MacDonald is Scotland’s foremost tartan historian specializing in all aspects of Tartan. His particular interest lies in Jacobite-era patterns; tartans that predate the advent of Clan Tartans in the 19th century. Peter is also an expert on tartan weaving and dying techniques from 17th century home "cottage" production through the advent and blossoming of commercial production by the famous weaving firm Wilsons of Bannockburn. With an emphasis on hands-on research and painstaking reproduction using his own loom, Peter has helped numerous individuals as well as respected institutions like the V&A Dundee Museum to discover Scotland's unique textile heritage.

"The Utilikilts Company is an American contemporary or "utility" kilt company founded by Steven 'Krash' Villegas in April 2000. Villegas created his first kilt in the late '90s as an alternative to pants meant to offer freedom of movement, while working on his motorcycle. Created from an old pair of military pants, Villegas was so fond of his creation he wore it quite often around town. He was approached by his first customer, "a bouncer that you wouldn't want to mess with", at a local bar. That first encounter encouraged him to produce more kilts, and sell them at the Pike Place Market and Fremont Street Market, in Seattle. Villegas soon formed the Utilikilts Company, establishing both brick-and-mortar and web-based storefront for the product. "

Jamesie Johnston is the bass drummer and driving personality behind Albannach - the popular tribal bagpipes and drums band. Jamesie grew up in Glasgow. Though he seemed headed for a solid workingman's life as an auto mechanic, fate had other ideas.
After doing some film work for various UK -based productions and the Discovery Channel, he fell into the music scene. After playing with another tribal drum crew, Jamesie and his mates founded Albannach and the rest is history.
